Gyroscope & Motion Sensor Test
Test your phone or tablet's gyroscope and accelerometer right in the browser. See live orientation (alpha, beta, gamma), acceleration and a tilt visual that moves as you rotate your device. Everything runs locally, nothing is uploaded.
This test needs a device with motion sensors. Please open it on a phone or tablet.

Motion

Tilt
Level
100% local — nothing leaves your device
How to use it
- 1 Open this page on the phone or tablet you want to test.
- 2 Tap the start button and, on iOS, grant motion access when prompted.
- 3 Tilt and rotate your device and watch the values and tilt visual respond.
- 4 If the numbers change smoothly as you move, your gyroscope is working.
Troubleshooting
Gyroscope test not working on iPhone or iPad in Safari
On iOS, motion sensors are blocked until you grant permission. Tap the start button on the page, then choose Allow when Safari asks for access to motion and orientation. The site must also be served over HTTPS, or the permission prompt will not appear and values stay blank.
Values stay at zero or do not change on Android in Chrome
Make sure the page is loaded over HTTPS, since Chrome blocks motion data on insecure pages. Then physically rotate the device, not just slide it. If numbers still stay flat, your device may lack a gyroscope or have sensors disabled in system settings.
Gyroscope test does not run on my laptop or desktop
Most laptops and desktops have no gyroscope or accelerometer, so orientation and acceleration values stay empty. This test is built for phones and tablets with motion sensors. Open the page on a mobile device to see the live readings and tilt visual respond.
Orientation values look reversed or stuck on one axis
Each axis reacts to a different rotation: alpha is compass twist, beta is front-back tilt, gamma is left-right tilt. Rotate around each direction separately to confirm all three change. A single stuck axis can indicate a damaged or miscalibrated sensor.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my gyroscope is working?
Open the test on your phone, start it, then tilt and rotate the device. If the orientation values (alpha, beta, gamma) and the tilt visual change smoothly as you move, your gyroscope is working correctly.
What is the difference between the gyroscope and accelerometer?
The gyroscope reports your device's rotation and orientation, while the accelerometer measures acceleration and movement, including gravity. This test shows both: orientation angles from the gyroscope and acceleration values from the accelerometer.
Why does iOS ask for permission before the test runs?
Apple requires apps and websites to request motion and orientation access on iOS 13 and later. Tap the start button and choose Allow so the page can read your gyroscope. Without granting it, the values stay blank.
Does this test upload my motion data anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser using your device's sensors. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to any server, so your orientation and motion readings stay 100% local and private.
Will this work on any phone or tablet?
It works on most modern smartphones and tablets that include gyroscope and accelerometer sensors. Older or budget devices without a gyroscope will show empty orientation values. A current browser and an HTTPS connection are required.
