Webcam test
Check that your webcam works in seconds. Allow access and your live camera feed appears, with a snapshot button plus resolution and frame-rate readout. The video stays in your browser — nothing is recorded or uploaded.
We only ask for access when you press the button — and only to run this test.
Recording
100% local — nothing leaves your device
How to use it
- 1 Click “Start camera” and accept your browser's permission prompt.
- 2 Confirm you see yourself in the live preview — the feed should be smooth.
- 3 If you have more than one camera, pick the right one from the dropdown.
- 4 Take a snapshot or press “Stop” to release the camera when you're done.
Troubleshooting
Camera not working in Zoom, Teams, Discord, Google Meet or OBS
If the feed appears here but the app shows a black screen, the issue is in that app, not your hardware. Close this tab so the camera is free, then open the app's video settings, select the same camera, and confirm the app has camera permission in your operating system's privacy settings.
Webcam not working on Windows 11
Open Settings, Privacy & security, Camera, and turn on “Let apps access your camera” and “Let desktop apps access your camera”, including your browser. If a privacy shutter or laptop function key disabled the lens, re-enable it, then reload this page and click Start camera again.
Camera not working on Mac or the browser never asks
Camera access needs a secure connection (https) and explicit permission. On macOS open System Settings, Privacy & Security, Camera, and enable your browser. Then click the camera icon or padlock in the address bar, set Camera to Allow, reload the page and retry.
“Camera in use” / NotReadableError or a black preview
Another program is holding the camera exclusively. Close other video calls, recording apps like OBS, and browser tabs that may use it, then reload this page. Also check that a physical privacy cover is open and that the correct camera is chosen in the dropdown.
Frequently asked questions
Is my camera recorded or uploaded?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser using the getUserMedia API. The video stream is shown locally to draw the preview and is never saved, sent to a server, or shared. Any snapshot you take stays on your device.
How do I test my camera online?
Click Start camera, allow access when your browser asks, and your live feed appears instantly. If you can see yourself clearly and the image is smooth, your webcam is working correctly.
Why does the browser ask for permission?
Browsers require your explicit consent before any site can use the camera. We only request it when you click the button, and only to show this preview. You can revoke it at any time from the address bar.
Does the webcam test work on a phone?
Yes. It works in mobile Chrome, Safari and most modern mobile browsers. Grant permission when prompted, and use the dropdown to switch between the front and rear cameras.
Which browsers are supported?
Any modern browser with getUserMedia: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Opera on both desktop and mobile.
The preview works but my camera fails in calls — why?
That points to the app, not the camera. Make sure no other app (including this tab) is using the camera, re-select it in the app's video settings, and confirm the app has OS-level camera permission.
