Typing speed test
Find out how fast you type: start typing the passage and the tool measures your words per minute (WPM) and accuracy in real time. Pick a 1-minute or full-text run. Everything runs locally in your browser.
100% local — nothing leaves your device

Troubleshooting
Typing speed test not working in Chrome or on Windows 11
Make sure JavaScript is enabled and any reader mode or aggressive ad blocker is off, then reload the page. The test only listens for keystrokes in the text box, so it works in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows 11 without any plugin, extension or permission prompt.
The timer doesn't start when I begin typing
The clock starts on your first correct keystroke inside the typing box, not on page load. Click directly into the text field first, then type. If nothing registers, reload the page and check that another tab or app isn't capturing your keyboard focus.
My WPM looks lower than expected
WPM here counts a standard 5 characters as one word and subtracts time lost to mistakes, so errors and corrections drag the number down. Slow down slightly for accuracy, avoid backspacing whole words, and run the full passage rather than stopping early for a truer score.
Typing speed test not working on mobile or with an on-screen keyboard
On phones and tablets, tap the text box so the on-screen keyboard appears, then type into it. Autocorrect and word suggestions can change characters and hurt accuracy, so disable them if you can. Touch typing usually scores lower WPM than a physical keyboard.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good typing speed in WPM?
The average typist reaches about 40 words per minute. Around 60–70 WPM is considered fast, and professional typists often exceed 80–100 WPM. Accuracy matters too — high WPM with many errors counts for less than steady, clean typing.
How is WPM calculated?
Words per minute is measured by counting every 5 typed characters as one word, then dividing by the elapsed time in minutes. Mistakes you don't fix lower your net WPM and your accuracy percentage, so both speed and precision shape your score.
Is anything uploaded or recorded?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser and only reads the keys you type into the box on this page. Nothing you type is uploaded, saved or sent to a server — your score stays on your device.
Can I do a 1-minute typing test?
Yes. You can run a timed 1-minute test or type a full passage at your own pace. The 1-minute mode is great for a quick WPM benchmark, while the full passage gives a steadier average across more text.
Does it work on mobile and which browsers are supported?
Yes. It works in any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Opera — on desktop and mobile, with no install or permission needed. On phones you type with the on-screen keyboard, which usually scores lower than a physical one.
How can I improve my typing speed?
Practise regularly, keep your fingers on the home row, and look at the screen instead of the keys. Focus on accuracy first — fewer mistakes mean less time lost to corrections — and speed naturally follows as the movements become muscle memory.
